Hedge pruning
that holds its shape.

Sharp lines, healthy growth, clean clean-up. From buxus and box to four-metre photinia screens — we shape Canberra's hedges twice a year, included in Complete Maintenance.

When we
cut what.

Canberra has four real seasons and your hedge knows it. The wrong cut at the wrong time can stress a hedge for two years. Here's how we time it:

  • Spring (Sep–Oct): Shape cut on most evergreens. Sets the season's silhouette.
  • Summer (Dec–Feb): Tidy cut for hedges that have grown out. Light work.
  • Autumn (Mar–Apr): Hard reshape for photinia and lilly pilly. Last big cut before winter.
  • Winter: No major hedge work — except deciduous formative pruning if needed.

What's
included.

  • Top, sides, and any visible angles cut to your preferred line
  • Drop sheets used on garden beds to catch clippings
  • All cuttings removed from site — no piles left behind the hedge
  • Tools sterilised between properties to prevent fungal spread

Hedges we
know well.

01

Buxus & Box

Formal hedges, knot gardens, low border work. Twice yearly cuts to keep them dense.

02

Photinia & Lilly Pilly

The Canberra screen workhorse. Kept tight, healthy, and at your preferred height.

03

Conifer & Cypress

Leyland, Italian cypress, golden conifer. Shaped carefully — these don't recover from over-cutting.

04

Escallonia & Viburnum

Flowering hedges timed to preserve the next bloom cycle.

What it costs.

Hedges are included from Complete Maintenance ($660/month) upwards. That includes two scheduled hedge cuts a year on your standard hedges, plus formative pruning on younger plantings.

For estates with multiple long runs of hedge or formal box parterres, Total Property Care ($880/month) includes unlimited hedge work as needed across the year.

Bought a property with neglected hedges? Selling soon and need them sharp? We do one-off hedge resets from $480 depending on size and condition. Quote in writing, no surprises.

Common questions

Everything you might want to ask.

Will you take the hedge down in height?+
Yes — within reason. Photinia and lilly pilly handle height reduction well. Conifer and cypress should never be cut below their green growth; we'll tell you straight if a hedge can't safely come down further.
Can you cut my neighbour's hedge that's overhanging?+
We can cut anything overhanging your boundary back to the fence line, no permission needed. We always recommend a friendly conversation first though.
What about tall hedges over 3m?+
Standard subscription includes up to 3.5m. Anything taller may need scaffolding or rope access — quoted separately, often handled by our LiRo Tree Services partnership.
